Internships and Apprenticeships
The Vision
We want to be an outwardly focused, missional people who love and serve God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Matt. 22:37). We want to see people from all across our community and the hills come to know and love Jesus. And we believe that Ministry Apprenticeships are a vital strategy to help us reach that vision.
The Strategy
These programs help us to reach our vision in two ways:
Firstly, they help grow and mature the individuals that are being apprenticed. And secondly, as our interns and apprentices serve, the church is encouraged and built up in the faith to become mature disciples.
What is it?
A Ministry Apprentice is someone who is being ‘apprenticed.’ They are being discipled, trained, and equipped for a lifetime of faithful Christian service.
Apprentices are grown and matured in three key areas:
- Conviction: this is what we believe about God and his world. The focus of this area is about guarding the Gospel.
- Character: this is about how we live and cultivating a godly character that is living a life worthy of the Gospel.
- Competence: this is about learning ministry skills to serve the ministry of the Gospel.
Each of these three areas has their place but conviction and character are primary. Who we are and what we believe is much more important that our skills.
Our goal is not to make great leaders but to grow Christian men and women with Christ-like characters, who know what they believe, and have the courage to hold fast to those convictions.
What does it look like?
There are three types of Ministry Apprenticeships/Internships:
- Internship
- Ministry Apprenticeship
- Student Minister Apprenticeship
Each apprenticeship is flexible and the training is tailored to each individual.
Who is it for?
Anyone—there is no age limit!
If you are a Christian who wants to grow in your convictions, character, and competence then this is for you. You have to be up for a challenge and be willing to learn and give things a go.
Apprenticeship Types
1. Internship
This is a one year, part-time program specifically designed for anyone who wants to grow and be challenged in their life and faith.
This program aims to grow your love for God and his Word and to grow in Christian maturity and confidence in the person and work of Christ. This program will take about 3 hours per week and involves training and teaching that covers a variety of topics focused on conviction and character.
2. Ministry Apprentice
This is a two year, full-time or part-time program for anyone considering the prospect of vocational ministry and for anyone who wants to be challenged and trained.
This apprenticeship gives you hands-on ministry experience that will equip you for a life-time of Christian service whether that is in vocational ministry or as a volunteer. This is the perfect program if you are considering vocational ministry and are wondering if God is calling you into ministry.
3. Student Minister Apprentice
This program sits alongside theological education for anyone who is studying at Bible college. This is a 1-2 day a week program and aims to give college students an opportunity to apply what they are learning at college in practical and real ways.
FAQ
Are these apprenticeships accredited?
Our Ministry and Student Minister apprenticeships are accredited through study at Bible college. Our one year Internship isn’t accredited because we want it to be free and a low time commitment. An accredited course comes with a significant financial cost and would be at least 2–4 days a week. But please speak to Chris if you do want to explore this option.
How can I support our apprentices?
Pray! Please pray that through their apprenticeship they will grow into maturity in Christ (Col. 1:28) and will be equipped with the skills for a lifetime of faithful Christian service that God will use for his glory. If you would like to financially support our apprentices then you can do that by giving to the church and labelling your contribution as “apprentices”.
How can I apply?
If you wish to do the Internship then grab a enrolment form from one of our pastors. If you are thinking about doing the second type of apprenticeship, the Ministry Apprenticeship, then please speak to one of the Pastors.
What if I’m not sure if I should do an apprenticeship?
Come and have a chat with with one of our pastors! We’d love to talk with you about your plans and what you’re thinking and how we can accomodate something into your plans.
