Pastor's Pen
Letting go of someone you love and putting them into the hands of God can be one of the hardest things you will ever do. Recently I read this poem.
"As Children bring their broken toys with tears for us to mend
I brought my broken dreams to God because He is my Friend.
But then instead of leaving Him in peace to work alone
I hung around and tried to help in ways that were my own.
At last I snatched them back and cried,"How can You be so slow?"
"My child," He said, "What could I do…you never did let go"
To let go of someone doesn’t mean you stop caring; it just means YOU can't do it for them. It means you stop rescuing them, and allow the circumstances to correct them and make them whole. It means you choose neither to fix them, nor to judge them. Just to pray for them, and believe God to accomplish what you can't do.
Letting go also means facing your own selfishness and the need to adjust everything to your desires, and instead saying, "...not my will but Yours be done." (Luke 22:42)
It removes others as either the cause of your pain, or the source of your joy, and places your focus back where it should be – on God.
It's deciding to fear less and love more. In other words, letting go is just letting God do it His way. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." (Proverbs 3:5).
Today there is a growing interest on the Second Coming of Christ. There is no doubt He is coming back and that the subject is interesting. But before He ascended, Jesus' disciples asked him about it. His response? "It's not for you to know the times or dates... but you will receive power... and you will be My witnesses." (Acts 1:8).
When the disciples wanted to talk about prophecy, Jesus switched the conversation to soul winning. He told them, "The details of My return aren't your business. Your business is winning the lost! Focus on that!"
Speculating on the timing of Christ's return is futile because Jesus said, "No one knows about that day... not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." (Matt. 24:36).
Now if Jesus didn't know the day of His return, why are some people trying to figure it out? What we do know for sure is: Jesus will not return until everyone that God wants to hear the good news has heard it. So if you want Jesus to come back sooner, get busy and start winning souls. Soul winning isn't something you "fit into your life". No, it should be your life's purpose! Instead of praying: "God I want you to bless what I do, "it's time to start praying: "God help me to do what You are blessing!"
There is almost nothing God won't do for the one who is committed to bringing others into His Kingdom!
